Consulting for Communication
Communication depends on movement, preferably a continuous one like the water and rain cycle. Blockages can upset the system. As causes for blockage of such a movement we may look at external pressure (e.g. the ”market”), internal pressure (e.g. cost-cutting) or personal qualities such as ambition. Within one hierarchical level, communication can be aggravated by competition amongst colleagues or between different levels; the hierarchy as such can serve to mute communication.
Communication improvements may start with a non-judgemental consciousness about existing communicative structures and their reasons. In a consultation we together with all concerned look at the status quo to determine which originally perceived advantages have led to the current situation. Together we assess the resulting risks and prepare a plan for deliberate improvement. All participants receive training and counselling according to their needs in order to support them in implementing the improvements. Implemented will be only what all involved really want. What sort of communication is desired and appropriate is something the affected usually know best for themselves, or they rediscover it in the process.
